Thursday Quotables ~ A School for Unusual Girls by Kathleen Baldwin

Hosted by BookshelfFantasies

It's Thursday Quotables today! Thursday Quotables is all about sharing a favorite quote, line, or passage from your reading each week. You know it's a good read when you come across a bunch of memorable quotes!

This week's quote comes from A School for Unusual Girls by Kathleen BaldwinA School for Unusual Girls is a YA historical fiction espionage novel, centred around Miss Georgiana Fitzwilliam and the secrets she unearths whilst residing in the mysterious Stranje House

There were so many great quotes to choose from. But I managed to settle on a few quotes that I think really showcase the imaginative and entertaining writing style of the novel (plus included one of my favourite characters from the novel!):

Presenting...a brand new standalone novel from
Rachel Van Dyken!

Capture is a spin-off from the Seaside Series.

Release Date: August 20, 2015

Synopsis

Losing your ability to speak at the age of seventeen; it’s not normal or fair. But trauma, has a way of throwing normality out the window.

Dani lives anything but a normal life.

Her sister is married to one of the biggest names in Hollywood. Her best friends are rockstar duo AD2. And she has more love around her than most people experience in a lifetime. But that doesn't change the fact their parents are dead.

Or that it's her fault.

It seems her new normal is being a mute, living on the inside, unable to actually communicate on the outside.

That is until Hollywood’s newest heartthrob Lincoln Greene hires her as his assistant for the summer.
He's gorgeous, completely unavailable, and unobtainable.

But that doesn't stop her from wondering...if things were different...would he want her?
If she was whole, would he be the other half?

All Played Out by Cora Carmack ~ Release Week Blitz + Exclusive Excerpt

Prepare yourselves for a book that is sure to steal your heart!

I am so, so excited to be helping out with the Release Week Blitz for Cora Carmack's All Played Out

All Played Out is a New Adult Contemporary Romance and is the 3rd book in the Rusk University Series, published by William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins.

About the book

First person in her family to go to college? CHECK.
Straight A’s? CHECK.
On track to graduate early? CHECK.
Social life? …..yeah, about that….

With just a few weeks until she graduates, Antonella DeLuca’s beginning to worry that maybe she hasn’t had the full college experience. (Okay... Scratch that. She knows she hasn't had the full college experience). So Nell does what a smart, dedicated girl like herself does best. She makes a "to do" list of normal college activities.

Item #1? Hook up with a jock.

Rusk University wide receiver Mateo Torres practically wrote the playbook for normal college living. When he’s not on the field, he excels at partying, girls, and more partying. As long as he keeps things light and easy, it's impossible to get hurt... again. But something about the quiet, shy, sexy-as-hell Nell gets under his skin, and when he learns about her list, he makes it his mission to help her complete it.

Torres is the definition of confident (And sexy. And wild), and he opens up a side of Nell that she's never known. But as they begin to check off each crazy, exciting, normal item, Nell finds that her frivolous list leads to something more serious than she bargained for. And while Torres is used to taking risks on the field, he has to decide if he's willing to take the chance when it's more than just a game.

Together they will have to decide if what they have is just part of the experiment or a chance at something real.

A Mom For Umande ~ A Mother's Day Event with Maria Faulconer

I'm so pleased to take part in a very special event celebrating Maria Faulconer's touching picture book, A Mom For Umande, and mothers everywhere.

Mothers come in all sorts of packages, from natural moms, to adoptive moms, to women who stepped in and raised us in the best way they knew how. No matter what form they come in, mothers are a special group of women who deserve to be honoured this Mother's Day, and today I am excited to share my own tribute to a very special woman.

Below are all of the details about A Mom For Umande, plus my own special tribute. There is also a giveaway opportunity, so be sure to enter!

A tribute to my mother

Me (age 6) with my mother

I think it's fitting that this tribute to my mother is being featured on my book review blog, seeing as my mother was the one who gave me my deep and abiding love of books.

Growing up, she would read aloud to me from thick volumes filled with fairytales, feeding my lively imagination. We would spend hours cuddled up together, exploring literary worlds and befriending the colourful characters that lived in them. She was never too busy to sit down with me & I can honestly say that to this day, my mother remains my book buddy, my best friend, & my partner in crime.

My mother didn't only give me a love of reading, however. She gave me words to create my own stories - the words to write the story of my own life, day by day.

Anytime I felt like I was falling, she would help me regain my balance. Whenever life's burdens got too heavy, she was there - not with happy, empty words but with honest words of strength. My mother has always believed in me and there are no words to describe how much that means to me. She's always made it clear that she wants me to fly and fly high...but if I ever want to land, that she'll be there, waiting and holding down the fort.

N.K. Jemisin once wrote, “In a child's eyes, a mother is a goddess. She can be glorious or terrible, benevolent or filled with wrath, but she commands love either way. I am convinced that this is the greatest power in the universe.” And I can honestly say that my mother was and is the centre of my universe. I would not be the woman I am today if it weren't for her love and guidance, her wit and her kindness, her smile and her laugh.

So a big happy Mother's Day to you, Mum. Thank you for taking me on literary journeys and for walking alongside me on my own ♥
