Love getting spooked?
Looking forward to a book about the living dead and creatures of the night?
Like tales filled with blood and gore?
Well it's that time of year to stock up on books that send a shiver down your spine! Seeing as Halloween is upon us, it's the perfect chance to sit back with a spook-a-licious book or two and prepare yourself for a fright.
Which is why I've come up with six spectacularly spooky books for you to take a look at!
So without further ado, here's my Spooky Six List...
#1: The Devouring Series (Books #1-3) by Simon Holt
If the title of the series wasn't enough to make you read these books with the light on, then the creatures within it certainly will!
The Devouring series is notorious for its creatures, the Vours. They're evil demonic being that inhabit human bodies on Sorry Night, during winter solstice.
Be prepared to suspect everyone and everything of being evil as these books take you on a terror-filled ride!
#2: The Newsflash Series (Books #0.5-4) by Mira Grant
Blood! Guts! Horror! The NewsFlash series has it all.
It's one of the more sophisticated and intriguing YA zombie series out there, the highlight of the series being the first book Feed.
Badass and dangerous, this series is a lethal combination of killer zombies and killer secrets. Follow bloggers Georgia and Shaun Mason on their journey as they fight to uncover the truth...no matter the cost.
#3: The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
You haven't read a true sci-fi horror novel until you've gone and read the classic The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde!
Featuring a battle between good and evil, grisly descriptions and brilliant wordplay, this book truly is Halloween fiction at its best.
Prepare to be thoroughly creeped out...many, many times!
#4: The Forest of Hands and Teeth Series (Books #1-3) by Carrie Ryan
It's your typical zombie apocalypse with an intriguing thriller twist!
You know the drill: run, stay alive, don't get infected...and run some more. The Forest of Teeth and Hands (again, a self-explanatory title!) is filled with jump-scare moments and 'oh gosh are they bitten?' scenarios.
Who will live...and who will die and come back to life? Read the series and find out!
(Side-note: the blood, sweat, and terror on the inside of the books totally does not match the picturesque Pinterest-worthiness of the outside!)
#5: And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
With surprises at every turn of the page, this book is perfect for a dark, gloomy Halloween evening.
Isolated island? Check.
Ten strangers gathered together for a mysterious reason? Check.
Murder? Check.
A totally mind-blowing twist? Double check!
Agatha Christie, Queen of Mystery, ticks all the boxes in this mystery thriller that is sure to have you second-guessing your sleuthing abilities and checking over your shoulder.
#6: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Series (Books #0.5-2) by Steve Hockensmith & Seth Grahame-Smith
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains!
I had to choose at least one fun Halloween pick. And Pride and Prejudice and Zombies had be in fits of laughter from beginning to end.
Lovers of Jane Austen will be sure to notice how flawlessly the book cuts and pastes together original Pride and Prejudice text with bloody zombie battles. It's a total delight!
