Chasing River by K.A. Tucker ~ Review Tour

It is with great happiness that I'm bringing you the Review Tour for K.A. Tucker's Chasing River

Chasing River is a Suspenseful Romance novel, and the third novel in K.A. Tucker’s Burying Water Series, published by Atria books, an Imprint of Simon & Schuster. It is set to be released July 7, 2015!

About the book

Armed with two years' worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn't let her die, but he also couldn’t risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations.

When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move. Maybe it's because he saved her life, or maybe it's because he's completely different from everything she's left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn't the kind of guy she'd want to catch.

And now for my review of...

Rating: 4.7

'"How do they look?" I haven't even seen the wounds yet, though I imagine they can't be pretty.

(...) Water trickles down my back as she cleans the areas. "They look like they must have hurt." Cool air dances over my skin, her breathing shallow and quick.

"It's nothing."

"Shrapnel wounds aren't nothing, River." Tentative fingers drag over my forearm, as if testing my response to the affection. "You have those because of me," she says so softly that I barely hear her.'

Chasing River is a vivid tale of torn loyalties, the fight for justice, & love.

K.A Tucker's masterful use of Ireland's history - its backdrop of civil unrest & fight for political independence, & its rich culture - is what makes this book so memorable & so very hard to put down.

True, her characters are (once again) beautifully flawed & brought to life in a way that instantly draws the reader into their world. But the characters would be very pale indeed if not for the lush context that K.A Tucker has created.

This is not just a story about a troubled man who meets a beautiful yet seemingly fragile woman.

This is not a story that delivers fanciful conclusions, or too-good-to-be-true 'realities'. Reality is at the very heart of Chasing River. It is present in the book's values of blood ties & family, in its hard truths about black & white areas & the grey that exists in between it all - and most importantly it exists in the form of the book's characters.

They are attracted to one another, certainly. Maybe they even fall in love (no spoilers!). But they aren't like your average YA/NA couple, who believe that true love can triumph over anything, that it wipes out all obstacles in its path.

Because...it doesn't. Obstacles do exist. They're awfully real and more often than not they have to be confronted and dealt with.

Chasing River teaches readers above all that sometimes reality can be a hard burden to bear. Sometimes we have to face bitter truths...the bitterest of which normally involve facing who we are at heart & who those closest to us truly are. Love is important, but doing the right thing and fighting for what is right also are. Finding a balance is hard, but if the love is real then it is worth fighting for.

This book - this series - is truly a literary gem.

With colourful characters, heart-wrenching romance, and extremely handsome Irishmen, Chasing River is a book that will play on in your mind long after you've turned the final page.

  1. I'm a big fan of Kathleen and her writing. So far I've only read the Ten Tiny Breaths series but I'm super excited to start the Burying Water books.
