Do you love chocolate?

If you're a bookworm that has a deep and meaningful relationship with chocolate, this post is for you! If you don't like chocolate then I apologise and here is a gif of a squirrel:

And yes, the squirrel is eating chocolate because CHOCOLATE IS AWESOME!

Easter is fast approaching and chocolate is practically flying off of supermarket and store shelves. But even if you have a whole bunch of chocolate to enjoy on Easter, you'll need something to do whilst you snack on your chocolate treats. And I've got you guys covered with my top 3 favourite chocolatey reads!

These books are centred around chocolate and were probably written by chocolate lovers!

Read on for my recommendations (regarding both books and chocolates!)

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

Top reason to read this book: These kids are given the chance to win a lifetime's supply of chocolate! Also, the factory isn't only full of chocolate...basically everything you see in there is edible. It's a child's or a very grown-up uni student's dream come true ;)

Chocolate treat to eat with this book: In the spirit of Willy Wonka's 'Wonka Bar', you should pair this book with a block of pure milk chocolate with no fills. Stick to the classics! And who knows - maybe you'll find a Wonka golden ticket inside one...!

All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin

Top reason to read this book: Chocolate (and coffee) are illegal and there is a chocolate blackmarket. Yep, you read that correctly - a chocolate blackmarket! With little chocolate mobsters running around looking badass smuggling chocolate.

Chocolate treat to eat with this book: Well I doubt you can get your hands on the book's Balanchine Special Dark Chocolate but if you can than you're obviously a highly trained chocolate mafia member!, so just normal dark chocolate will have to do. Or, alternatively, find your own way of making it special like the Balanchine's. Maybe add salt flakes to taste? Dip it in caramel? The world is your bar of chocolate!

The Sweetest Spell by Suzanne Selfors

Top reason to read this book: If the fact that the book's protagonist can churn milk into chocolate isn't enough of an incentive for you, than the blurb's claim that the she lives in a 'world where true love and chocolate conquer all' should be enough to have you hooked!

Chocolate treat to eat with this book: Since every time the protagonist Emmeline tries to churn milk into butter it instead turns into chocolate, your choice should be something buttery. My top pick would be some REESE's Peanut Butter Cups! Unless you're allergic to peanuts - in that case please choose something less inclined to cause your unnecessary agony!

  1. Oh my gosh these all sound so good! I'm an avid chocolate fan so I'm definitely going to read these :) I don't think I've ever really read a book that explicitly talked about chocolate in any way other than in passing. This is such a cool idea for a post!

    1. They really are! And I'm simply over the moon to hear you're also an avid chocolate fan (three cheers for chocolate!!). It is rare to come across books that have chocolate-based plots, I agree - so I thought it'd be interesting to focus on the ones that do. I'm so glad you liked my post and thank you for dropping by! <3
